With Ted Katpchuk
From Shamans, to Chinese Physicians to Medical Doctors
A Personal Journey
This evening talk will describe Harvard professor Ted Kaptchuk's experience in Chinese medical school
and his later encounter with India's Ayurveda and the intellectual and emotional turmoil this created. His subsequent study of the Hippocratic Corpus failed to resolve the conflict for him.
Ted will then explore the origin of Chinese, Ayurveda and Hippocratic Medicine in relationship to shamanic healing.
He will elucidate the origins of modern medicine biomedicine, with an effort to describe “What is healing?”

Ted mixes personal stories, historical scholarship and
his extensive experience as a healer and scientist.
This talk will be informative, entertaining and addressed to non-specialists
and amazingly will be done in less than an hour with plenty of time for questions and discussion.
