May 12 - "Awakening to a Full Life"
with Richard Potter
1-4:30pm • $30
Living
our everyday lives can often be described as sleepwalking. We are often
not aware of what we are doing, thinking, feeling, and experiencing. A
major step on the spiritual path is "awakening" - we discover the fact
we have been asleep only because we wake up and experience the life we
have been missing.
The
question of why we have been asleep is complex, but one important
factor is what I call the "wanting beast." The wanting beast is the
constantly seeking, constantly wanting, never satisfied part of our
sleeping consciousness that keeps us preoccupied with fitful dreams and
unable to wake up to a full and real life.
In
this seminar we will work with a variety of spiritual practices to
discover the path to a full life and discovery of our true purpose in
life, which is the natural antidote to the "wanting beast."

What is a poetry Slam?
It's competition poetry; meaning humor, politics, enlightenment, sex, entertainment masquerading as literature, literature masquerading as entertainment. Poets will read, then judges will flash Olympic-style scoring to determine who goes on to the next round until there's just one poet left standing as the champion. It's a lot of fun!
Hosted by Matt Mason. Open mic starts at 7:30 followed by the featured performer and the slam; sign up BEFORE 7:30 as signup is limited and will only be allowed after 7:30 if less than 8 are in the slam.
