OM Center Poetry Slam Featuring Sierra DeMulder!
Sierra DeMulder
is one of the most accomplished and recognizable young women in the
world of slam poetry. The two-time National Poetry Slam champion has
spent the past five years energizing audiences at colleges and poetry
events across the nation, seamlessly weaving complex issues of identity
and gender with the honesty of heartbreak. Her poetry not only proves to
be an entertaining journey but inevitably leaves crowds reaching for
more.
It's
competition poetry; meaning humor, politics,
enlightenment, sex, entertainment masquerading as
literature, literature masquerading as entertainment. Poets
will read, then judges will flash Olympic-style
scoring to determine who goes on to the next round until
there's just one poet left standing as the champion.
It's a lot of fun!

Marc Smith is best known for bringing to the worldwide poetry community a new style of poetic presentation that has spawned one the most important social/literary arts movements of our time.
As stated in the PBS television series, The United States of Poetry, a “strand of new poetry began at Chicago’s Green Mill Tavern in 1987 when Marc Smith found a home for the Poetry Slam.” Since then, performance poetry has spread throughout the country and across the globe to hundreds of cities, universities, high schools, festivals, and cultural centers. Each year, teams from American and European cities compete in National
Poetry Slams, extravagant homespun festivals blending thousands of poetic voices.
The Slam has taken root and is flourishing in Australia, Germany, UK, Switzerland, France, Sweden, Denmark, Ireland, Italy, Madagascar, Singapore, and even at the South Pole.

The Turnpike is
pseudo-memoira bout the struggle of a young man to escape the
inheritance of the shattered hopes, dreams, and lives of his parents.
The young man roams New York City, self-cannibalizing himself with
alcohol and sex until he escapes the city to impossibly collide with his
dead father on the great American highway.“Pain is the breaking of the shell that encloses your understanding” Gibran
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Thom Sibbitt is a Nebraska native. He is the Managing Director of ætherplough,a tool for cultivating performance in Omaha. He also works as an arts mentor for high school artists. Thom has organized writing groups, created original performance work, and facilitated the work of contemporary artists for the last 15 years. Thom spent a decade in New York City, where he earned his BFA from New York University,worked extensively in the downtown theater scene and lost his mind. In Omaha, Thom gardens, cooks for friends and works in his wood shop in his infinitesimal free time.
